Meyer is unparalleled in his "biographies" of Biblical characters. He stresses how these are not vaunted men of legend to whom us mere mortals should never aspire to be like. Rather, he shows the very human nature, as conveyed in scripture, that marks these men.Elijah was a rough, back-woods shepherd who claimed faith in God's promises. This took him from his wild fields to the palace halls, where he was probably a curiosity to the refined crowd.When you read the pages of this book you find the treasure of gold that God has given us (and mined so expertly by Meyer) in the pages of 1 and 2 Kings.The secret of Elijah's power is something each and every believer can and should possess. And in these days it has never been so vital that Christians step forward in faith to claim it.
I've tended to believe that people like Elijah had received some particular dispensation of power that set them apart from rest of us. Not so according to F.B. Meyer. As an average person living out life in an overwhelmingly complex world, this gives great hope that the efforts of a common person exercising their faith can have a meaningful impact.
This was recommended to me by a friend. I really enjoy what Meyer has to say about Elijah. Elijah is by far one of my favorite Biblical prophets. You have got to read this great book.
The material is excellent, but it appears that somebody took an old book and reprinted in extremely small print and the material was not edited properly. There are no copyright details. So the publisher should redo this material to make it professional.
I have now been introduced to the writings of Mr. Meyers. All I can say is "wow"!
I highly recommend this book and believe all Christians and non Christians can relate and find themselves in Elijah experiences.
I am anxious to read/study this reprint. As I have said in other evaluationstoday, this book, I believe, will be a help to both me as a pastor, and mywife, who teaches a Bible class in the church that I serve.\Thank you!
