Even after eight years, our ten year old still loves this book and pulls it out on Thanksgiving. I've gifted this to a number of toddler families. The "surprise ending" is not only incredibly sweet, but touching.
As a school librarian, I used to read the original version (B&W illustrations) to primary school children every year at Thanksgiving time. Just enough suspense and ambiguity to prompt critical thinking discussions. Bought this new one for my 5-year-old grandson, and it's still a hit.
A perfect Thanksgiving story!
This is a family favorite for over twenty years. Having read it to my own children, I now make sure that my grandchildren have copies. Delightful Thanksgiving read with a surprise ending
sweet book for thanksgiving. loved the twist on the end of the story. I am a homeschool mom and I will definitely keep this one for years to come - I think it will be a great standby for our co-op group during thanksgiving after by boys grow up a bit. highly recommend!
