I want to start by saying that I LOVE this author. I have loved almost every story that she has written and she's an auto-buy author for me. But this.... this was not my favorite story. It had nothing to do with older characters, which I honestly thought was going to give me pause.My problem with this story was that I didn't feel the attraction/chemistry with the couple. Most of the early attraction happened off the page for Rose while she was healing Talon. I just didn't feel the same connection that he was supposed to have with her. **spoiler** While he was traveling around we only got her point of view with a little of his narrative in the postcards. I would have loved to have seen him actually struggle. Yes I know it's a short story, but it would have only added a couple of pages to the novel. **end of spoiler**I know that we get some of Rose's background from Grim's books, but I felt like there was too much of Talon telling me how strong and badass Rose is. That's the thing I've been coming back to in the last few of these novels. There isn't enough showing me how badass the women are. You're just telling me they are from the men's mouth. It's his words and not the actual actions of the female character herself. The perfect example of showing me how strong a female character is instead of having the man tell me is with Alison and Kirk (Boarlander Silverback) or Georgia and Jason (Gray Back Ghost Bear). They both had amazing badass moments.I know how hard it is to write and finish one book, never mind 12+ books a year, I honestly don't know how she does it. But I do wish that we got to spend a little more time with the characters in the stories like I felt we did with the older Damon's mountains books. They might be the same length but the stories felt deeper and more rich than they do now. Two books in this series and I still don't feel like I know the Pride at all. :(
I write this as the tears are drying on my cheeks. T.S. Joyce has a magic within her art. We are the lucky ones. She makes the choice daily to continue to share her art with us all. Rose and Talon. ðŸ’ΕΎ Good Lord, those two provide hope. Also I have to add that I hope we are all blessed with a "Little protective toot" in all of our lives. Everyone deserves a pride, crew or family like those ones T gives us in her books.
Love isn't only the province of the young, it's potential lives in each human heart. How sweet to see Rose and Talon, who each had loving relationships with mates they lost, get the chance to love again. They don't have to live the rest of their lives on their own. Not that either would have withered away and died of they hadn't found each other; they are both strong individuals in their own right. They each have other people that they care for, and they each have things that give their lives meaning. They live full lives, but love adds a new dimension to those lives that was not there before. Now their lives are full-er. I am excited to see just how this new Tarian Pride will shape up. I love to read books where people struggle to become the best version of themselves. When they have every reason to just give in and become horrible monsters, but instead they continue to fight every day to be the best they can. They might be monsters, maybe there is no help for that, but THEY decide what KIND of monster they become. THEY decide what their monster will do. It's hope despite the odds, and triumph in defeat, and the meaning in the journey rather than just the destination. It's always worth the time to read books like that, and that's what T.S. Joyce writes.
This is the second book in the series and they should be read in order. This book is on the shorter side and focuses on Rose and Talon (Emerald’s dad). Both have had a mate before and didn’t think they would get another one. Talon is a rogue lion and his lion has been wanted to go but he has been staying make sure Emerald is settling in okay. Rose and Talon are drawn toward each other but will it be enough to get Talon’s lion to stay put? I read this book in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. I love all of T.S. Joyce’s books and this one was no exception. I can’t say enough about her or her books. This book was a sweet romance but it still had its bumps. Rose doesn’t attach easily but when she does, she never let’s go even if the other person leaves her. She knows she is taking a risk on Talon but can’t help it. It was great getting to read more about Emerald and the girls as well. I can’t wait for the next book.
This anthology is a solid 4 1/2 stars. The first story, Grim Christmas is a poignant tale of hope. Grim and his crew are fighting to stay together and Grim is fighting to be better. His love for Ash and for his crew drive him to deal with everyone better.The second story, New Vyr, is a story of pain and rebuilding. Vyr is desperate not to break. He needs his mate and his crew. His instability is hurting everyone. Having suffered a loss, he is fighting his way out of grief. He is not alone.The third story, Tarian Silver Lion, is simply about love. Rose thinks she's too old for Talon. Talon thinks he has to continue to roam. Neither count on falling in love. It's beautiful and shows you're never too old to find real love.Overall, this is a wonderful book. It continues the series and ties generations and crews together. I look forward to reading more.
Talon and Rose made my heart full. As an olderish reader, I'm not fond of mature love stores but sometimes you just need to read one. And this is definitely one of those must reads! Their story gives me hope that someday my Talon will show. Until then, I'm going to live vicariously through T's stories and enjoy where she takes me.
I was looking forward to Rose and Talons story after meeting them in Emerald and Ronins book and I can honestly say their story was better than I could have hoped for. It was real, it was sweet, it was sexy and it made you feel hope. It was only a short read but it had substance and left you waiting more from this dynamic duo. It also left you feeling that you're never too old to fall in love again...... honestly of all the books I've read lately, Talon and Rose are by far my favorite couple â¤
