Ever wonder why BMW dealerships make a ton of money? They have this book!My car is a 2002 325i. I use this book to analyze the 1-4 jobs required for the BMW. I study the job and wonder, is the dealership ripping me off or providing a quality service? Can I do this myself or should I outsource?Case #1: The key system - The auto keys use a system based on the car's memory. I had a problem where the keys were operating out of order. Dealership wanted $125 to LOOK at it. Saved $50 and purchased book. Looked up key system in book. Solved key problem in 30 mintues.Case #2: The Oil and Air Filter System - A little scary with an import because it looks different than US cars. The book explains everything, so I do these myself, saving probably $200-$400 per year.Case #3: The Coolant Flush - Dealer wants $250 to perform flush. I was against this at first, until the book pointed out a bleed system and a website mentioned that the dealership uses a special auto tool with the bleed system to extract air from the system. Special Auto Tools are where it might be worth taking to a dealer. This case is still open, but its good to know I can do it if things get tight.
Please actually buy this instead of going on forums to ask people to look at their copies. Support Bentley and all of the amazing work they put into making this intensely detailed manual. I've owned factory service manuals for other cars and this comes damn close to the same amount of technical detail. Worth every penny. Was able to do a lot of suspension and drivetrain work because of this manual.
I really like the hardback book format of this. Good service manual for all the specifications and torques and the basics on how things come apart and go back together. I go to this first to find out about any needed work on my 2004 BMW 325i. Then I head to the forum boards to get the detail tricks.
This is a must have for anyone with an E46 BMW that wants to work on the car themselves. Everything you want to know to work on the car is right there. I use Youtube and online posts to help work on the car, butt the value of having a book you can reference in the garage while working under a car cannot be underestimated.
A must have for any E46 owner, but realistically probably a enthusiast or home DIY-er, people who prefer to avoid the stealerships. It covers maintenance and repairs (lots of pictures) on every model going in depth with each of the cars systems and features. While reading, one could disassemble and reassemble an S54 engine. And as someone planing an S54 swap into a sedan down the road, this will come in very handy.
A large, comprehensive manual. I did notice, however, that the lighting section did not accurately represent my 2004 model 330ci.
Lacking some information, I was surprised they called it a service manual should be called a somewhat manual
If you can't or don't want to buy the factory service manual, Bentley's are the next best thing. Have been using them for over 30 years.
